National Music Centre: Collections Production Assistant

Reporting to the Manager, Collections and Artifact Care, the Collections Production Assistant is an integral part of the National Music Centre Collections team. Working closely with NMC staff and in some cases volunteers, the candidate will be a key support figure for all NMC activities. The ideal candidate for this role is an organized, self starter, with good communication skills who is willing and able to multi-task while effectively displaying ownership over all assignments, as well as follow- through on day to day necessities.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain gallery and office spaces
• Provide maintenance to exhibit, workshop and office spaces. This includes changing lights, dust, vacuum, paint, repair existing exhibits and build new as needed
• Assist all departments which require collection items moved
• Assist in facilities rental space set up and dismantle
• Assist in special projects, on and off-site
• Manage storage areas and monitor environmental conditions
• Assist with exhibit design and ensure that necessary materials are available for assembling and maintaining exhibits
• Build display and packing cases
• Pack, unpack, move and install items for display, on and off-site
• Ensure touring exhibits are properly and safely packed, assist with transportation, report on their status and condition, and identify and correct any problems with exhibit set up

• Consultants, contractors, event and production teams who may be engaged from time to time
• Community partners

Qualifications
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public
• Excellent Interpersonal skills, ability to work as a team member
• Knowledge of Performance stage set up including the use of various PA systems and backline equipment will be required
• Carpentry skills required
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Passion for music essential
• Bilingual an asset
• Positive, winning attitude. Energetic, driven, goal oriented
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and meet goals in a timely manner
