Making Space
Having released our cultural space strategy and research report Calgary Arts Development is working to lay the foundation to ensure that our arts organizations have homes today and for the long term. Below are some of the short and long term initiatives that we are engaged in.
1. The one-page pitch
Calgary Arts Development is preparing a template for a one-page pitch for arts organizations seeking new space that includes:
-
Overview of arts organization
-
Vision of new space
-
Requirement for any re-purposed leased space
-
Range of workable space (i.e. minimum and maximum)
-
Range of space expense (i.e. preferred to maximum lease rate)
-
Total audience/ attendance numbers and demographic
-
Listing of current Board and sponsors / supporters
-
2-4 pictures
CADA will format this information into a standard one-pager and circulate to a broad community of developers and building managers over the 2007 summer as part of our general outreach and relationship building with the property management and development community.
Please use our webform to submit this information:
2. Provide contact to networks and connections when able.
3. Bring forward a recommended list of projects for City investments in line with the current Cultural Spaces Strategy through a regular proposal program, application available in July 2007 with a first deadline in Jan/Feb, 2008.
An independent committee of artists, arts administrators and development professionals will be assembled to rank proposals. CADA will submit the first ranked list of specific project to City Council through Community and Protective Services in the spring of 2008.
4. Assemble a list of interested organizations and projects seeking new space
Groups not ready to go forward with a complete proposal for a fundable space will be able to indicate their future vision for a new space through a short form process in conjunction with the proposal process outlined in #3 above. CADA will link groups with similar desires and needs and identify mechanisms to help them move their projects forward to the proposal stage.
