Calgary. Music Lives Here.
The following news release was distributed at a press conference for the 2008 JUNO Awards on November 26, 2007. Calgary Arts Development is very pleased to co-chair the Calgary Host Committee for the 2008 JUNO Awards along with our partners at Tourism Calgary.
Calgary is proud to be the host city for The 2008 JUNO Awards, Canada’s premier arts and music event, from April 3-6, 2008.
To ensure a lasting impact for Calgary, its music and arts scene, and future celebration of local artists, the Calgary Host Committee has unveiled its new brand: Calgary. Music Lives Here.
As we approach The 2008 JUNO Awards, look for this brand to appear throughout the city, in publications and in all marketing efforts. But more important, watch beyond the Junos as Calgary and its arts community continues to promote Calgary’s dynamic music and arts scene well into the future.
“We know that visitors and locals alike will come away from the Juno Awards buzzing about Calgary's local music scene and all the amenities our city has to offer. We want to build on that buzz and continue to share Calgary’s success stories, celebrating music and arts well beyond the Junos,” says Marco De Iaco, Co-Chair, Calgary Host Committee.
In keeping with Calgary’s track record of capitalizing on major events, like the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Host Committee also has a vision to build and deliver a legacy program.
“Securing the Juno Awards has raised the profile of music, the arts and the city of Calgary. We want to leverage the excitement generated by the 2008 JUNO Awards to create a Legacy program that supports music in our community for years to come,” says Terry Rock, Co-Chair, Calgary Host Committee.
The legacy will focus on raising funds to support music for youth and education, and on providing career support resources for artists and other music professionals and the Aboriginal music community.
