Karen Ball, Director of Community Investment

Karen Ball is responsible for supporting and developing the granting program and to the community of arts presenters and performers that benefit from it.

Karen's resume includes serving in the senior Administration of the Alberta College of Art + Deisgn and The Banff Centre, the creation of Arts Habitat, an artist live/work development in Edmonton, serving as the Producer of The Works Art & Design festival in Edmonton and as a curator for the Ontario Craft Council. She holds a BAA from Ryerson University.

Holly Simon, Community Investment Officer

Holly Simon has a BFA from the Alberta College of Art & Design in Media Arts and Digital Technologies and studied fine arts and Spanish at the Universidad Polytecnica in Valencia, Spain. Holly was the Director of TRUCK, a contemporary artist-run centre in Calgary, Alberta from June 2003 to October 2005. In this time, she established a role on several Boards of Directors; including Treasurer of the Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival Society, Secretary of the Alberta Association of Artist-Run Centres and a representative for the Association of Calgary Artist-Run Centres. She has also lectured, been a panelist, and jury member for contemporary artist-run culture and attended numerous arts administration conferences and workshops across Canada. read more »

Erica Mattson, Marketing & Communications Manager

Erica Mattson is responsible for developing and implementing plans for Calgary Arts Development's corporate communications as well as leading initiatives to raise awareness of Calgary's dynamic arts scene and cultural achievements, locally and across the country. Erica has a BA in English from the University of Victoria, training in media relations and arts administration, and she is currently studying in the Master of Arts in Applied Communications program at Royal Roads University, where her research focuses on communications theory and marketing strategies for the arts. read more »

Suzanne Boss, Director of Operations

Suzanne Boss is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships between Calgary Arts Development and its many collaborators. A graduate of the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business, Suzanne is a partner in Boss Consulting Inc. (an organizational development consultancy specializing in collaboration and alignment). Suzanne has worked in the corporate head offices of a number of international organizations, including Walt Disney Company (Canada), Canadian Pacific Limited, and Gibson Energy. Her work has included marketing, corporate-community relations, project management, leadership development, operations management, and stakeholder alignment. Suzanne worked as temporary staff manager for Cirque du Soliel’s Alegria and Quidam tours to Calgary. read more »

Mike Scullen looks after Calgary Arts Development's information systems, including its website. Mike has a BA from the University of Regina in English and has studied Visual Fine Arts at the University of Calgary. Having a strong inclination towards technology and communication, Mike has been a prolific web publisher and is especially interested in the explosion of creative culture that is happening online and how this is influencing local trends. read more »
